After 2022, thousands of foreigners moved to Ukraine for humanitarian projects, volunteering, remote work, consulting, international business and reconstruction initiatives. Many opened Ukrainian bank accounts, rented apartments, launched companies or continued working remotely while physically living in Ukraine for long periods of time.
At first, most people focused mainly on immigration and legal stay:
- residence permits,
- visas,
- work permits,
- NGO registration,
- company setup,
- opening bank accounts.
But in practice, another issue has quietly become one of the biggest international compliance problems for foreigners living in Ukraine today:
tax residency, banking compliance and foreign income reporting.
Many foreigners still believe:
“If my salary is paid abroad, Ukrainian taxes do not apply to me.”
However, after spending more than 183 days in Ukraine, using Ukrainian banks, operating businesses, receiving foreign income or managing international projects from Ukraine, many people suddenly discover that Ukrainian tax residency rules may already apply to them.
And this is exactly where confusion usually begins.
Today foreigners in Ukraine increasingly face:
- banking compliance checks;
- source of funds requests;
- questions regarding international transfers;
- declaration of foreign income;
- cryptocurrency and brokerage reporting;
- dividend and investment income disclosure;
- CRS and international exchange of tax information;
- questions regarding taxes already paid abroad.
Many foreigners are also surprised to learn that Ukrainian tax reporting may potentially include:
- foreign salary;
- brokerage accounts;
- Interactive Brokers reports;
- cryptocurrency transactions;
- consulting income;
- foreign property sales;
- investment portfolios;
- income from multiple countries at the same time.
This topic especially affects:
- NGO workers;
- volunteers;
- humanitarian coordinators;
- foreign entrepreneurs;
- remote workers;
- consultants;
- investors;
- founders of Ukrainian companies.
During the webinar, we will discuss practical questions foreigners face while living and working in Ukraine:
How does Ukrainian tax residency work for foreigners?
What happens after 183 days in Ukraine?
What foreign income may need to be declared in Ukraine?
How do Ukrainian banks monitor international transfers and source of funds?
What documents may be required to confirm taxes already paid abroad?
How do foreign founders and non-resident business owners structure their activities in Ukraine?
How does CRS affect foreigners using international bank accounts, brokers and crypto platforms?
The webinar is designed to explain these issues in practical and simple language based on real situations foreigners face in Ukraine today.
